In September 2023, the Fabre brothers acquired the future home of the BENOM Estate in the Templeton Gap AVA just west of Paso Robles. Defined by diverse soils, varied exposures, and the cooling influence of the Templeton Gap climate, the 60-acre property provides an ideal foundation for thoughtful farming and a diversity of plantings.

The estate represents Arnaud & Guillaume’s long-term vision for the future of BENOM, rooted in the pursuit of wines with greater finesse, balance, and character.

The Property

The property spans 60 acres, 20 of which are now planted to vine. In the summer of 2024, we established the vineyard with rootstock. In the spring of 2025, we completed grafting to 14 different varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, and Merlot.

THE SOIL

The estate is defined by a mosaic of limestone and clay soils that alternate naturally throughout the property, creating a diverse foundation for planting. Limestone provides an ideal environment for Rhône varietals, bringing freshness, structure, and minerality, while clay soils are particularly well-suited to Bordeaux varietals, contributing depth, texture, and concentration. This diversity allows each varietal to be planted where it can achieve its greatest balance, expression, and long-term potential.

THE CLIMATE

Shaped by the cooling marine influence of the Templeton Gap AVA, the estate benefits from steady afternoon winds, coastal fog, and dramatic day-to-night temperature swings throughout the growing season. Its proximity to the Pacific Ocean creates one of the coolest growing environments in Paso Robles, allowing the vineyard to ripen slowly while preserving freshness, structure, and natural acidity. This extended growing season offers the opportunity to craft wines with both concentration and finesse, balancing ripeness with energy and precision.

The Templeton gap ava

The Templeton Gap District AVA is one of the coolest and most ocean-influenced regions within Paso Robles. Defined by a natural gap in the Santa Lucia Mountains, the AVA receives daily cooling winds and marine air from the Pacific Ocean, creating a longer, more moderate growing season than many other parts of Paso Robles.

Officially established in 2014 as one of the region’s 11 sub-AVAs, the Templeton Gap has become known for producing wines with freshness, structure, and balance, particularly Rhône and Bordeaux varietals.

THE FUTURE TASTING ROOM

The estate represents the future home of BENOM. Over the next few years, we will begin building a hospitality center on the property and will eventually transition our tasting room to the estate. We also plan to build an estate winery, allowing every part of the BENOM experience, from vineyard to cellar to hospitality, to come together in one place.

While the land has long served as a private residence and cattle ranch, there has never been a vineyard or winery on the property before. The opportunity to establish BENOM in this region and shape the estate from the ground up is incredibly meaningful for our family and the future of BENOM.
