THE TERROIR
The estate contains both limestone and clay soil types. This suits BENOM perfectly, as limestone proves to be the ideal soil type for Rhône varietals, while clay is well-suited for Bordeaux varietals.
The property spans 60 acres, 20 of which are planted. In the summer of 2024, we planted rootstock and will eventually graft with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, and Merlot.
YORK MOUNTAIN
York Mountain AVA is a historic wine region for Paso Robles. In fact, the first-ever Paso Robles winery was York Mountain Winery, which began in the late 1800s, pre-existing the Prohibition Period.
York Mountain is situated in the Santa Lucia mountains in close proximity to the Pacific. Therefore, York Mountain receives more rainfall, cooler temperatures, and an increased fog coverage when compared to Willow Creek and Adelaida districts. Nevertheless, the region enjoys sunny days and is known to have a large diurnal shift of up to 50 degrees.
THE TASTING ROOM
We will eventually be moving the Tin City tasting room to our estate in York Mountain. We will additionally be building a winery on the property.
There have never been vineyards or a winery on this property. It was previously used as a private residence and cattle farm. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to expand the BENOM brand in York Mountain.
